SUMMARY:Natalie Daise's "Visions of Freedom" Art Exhibition: Experience the Power of Art and Storytelling
DESCRIPTION:GEORGETOWN\, SC\, AUGUST 31\, 2023 — The Rice Museum is proud to present “Visions of Freedom\,” a captivating one-woman exhibition by the talented artist and storyteller\, Natalie Daise. The Rice Museum’s Prevost Art Gallery is poised to host this extraordinary celebration of creativity and emancipation\, inviting patrons to immerse themselves in Natalie Daise’s inspiring world of artistry. \n“Visions of Freedom” is a poignant homage to Natalie Daise’s patron saint\, Harriet Tubman\, and numerous other remarkable individuals whose indomitable spirit of freedom has left an indelible mark on the world. This exhibition pays tribute to luminaries such as Miriam Makeba\, Nina Simone\, Ysaye Barnwell\, Janie Hunter\, and others\, whose unwavering commitment to positive change resonates deeply in the hearts of many. \nNatalie Daise’s artwork is a manifestation of her boundless creativity as a professional storyteller and self-taught artist. Drawing inspiration from the rich tradition of oral storytelling\, Daise seamlessly merges various mediums\, surfaces\, and natural materials to craft visual narratives that transcend the limitations of language. Her unique approach invites viewers to explore the layers of meaning beneath the surface\, uncovering the hidden depths that words alone may not convey. \n“The process of playing with and discovering what my hands and the materials will do is my spiritual practice and\, as such\, rises from an intensely personal place\,” shares Daise. “My family of origin as well as the family I have created with my partner are important to this practice.” Daise’s artwork resonates with profound personal experiences\, and her use of collard greens as a motif connects her to her roots while also serving as a gateway to exploring the nurturing role of community. \n“Visions of Freedom” not only delves into Daise’s individual journey but also embraces the rich tapestry of African-American and Gullah Geechee traditions that have nurtured her creativity. The exhibition reflects on how creative expression can shape communities and foster positive transformation. \nThe opening reception on September 4\, 2023\, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM\, promises to be a vibrant gathering of art enthusiasts\, storytellers\, and those who appreciate the resonance of history and culture in contemporary art. Guests will have the opportunity to engage with Natalie Daise and delve into the inspirations behind her captivating creations. “Visions of Freedom” is a celebration of the human spirit’s capacity to break barriers\, uplift communities\, and pave the way for lasting change.
